Educators and students alike look to professional school counselors for ways to encourage girls, women, and underrepresented groups to pursue computing. But knowing where to start is hard, even for the most experienced counselors. NCWIT can help counselors remove the barriers so students choose to learn computing, consider pursuing technical career paths, and believe their voices can be heard in the tech industry.
The NCWIT Counselors for Computing (C4C) program provides information and resources that help counselors become effective influencers and advocates for computing education. We bring people and programs together with professional development, knowledge, and resources to give all students access to transformative computing careers.
C4C envisions a world where every learner, regardless of their background, has the chance to develop the computing and tech skills needed to thrive in a diverse and inclusive digital environment. School counselors and those in student advising roles are, and will continue to be, key leaders in this transformation by ensuring that all students are informed, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential in computing and STEM. Through our programs and resources, C4C aims to build an engaged network of counselors who advocate for equity in tech education, break down barriers to access, and foster a lifelong love of learning. Together, we’ll empower a generation of tech-savvy problem solvers, innovators, and leaders who will shape a brighter future for everyone.
To make this vision a reality, C4C supports school counselors, career coaches, and educators — both formal and informal — in their roles as student advisers by empowering them to become champions of fair and inclusive computer science and technology education. We also provide them with the knowledge, resources, and networks they need to guide all students, especially those from underrepresented groups, toward developing the crucial computing skills and literacy that will help them succeed in the tech-driven world of the 21st century.
