You Can Code, But Can You Haiku?

You can write code, but can you write haiku?
This was the challenge presented to winners of the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing in their Facebook Group over the summer.
The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing honors young women at the high-school level for their computing-related achievements and interests. Winners receive  a range of terrific prizes, are honored publicly in their communities, are presented with scholarship and career opportunities, and participate in an online peer community with other young women who, like, them, are passionate about technology and computing.
The following haiku poems are the result of the challenge to the Facebook group. The idea itself was conceived by one of the students, and the top three most “liked” poems earned their winners a Computer Engineer Barbie from NCWIT. Following are some of the contest entries (click through on the authors’ names to read their bios!)

“In my classes, I’ve found
though we are quite similar,
we’re very unique.
Some girls are like strings,
Always full of character (s);
They have things to say.
Some I have known were
More like compilers,
Finding my errors.
Some were unhappy
That we were the only ones,
The way that things are.
But I see I’m lucky
To have known all of these girls:
All great programmers.”
