Professor

Ken Anderson is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science in the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Colorado Boulder. He joined the department in 1998 and received tenure in 2005. He performed research at the intersection of software engineering, human-centered computing, and hypertext/hypermedia. He was the Co-Director of the Center for Software and Society and led that center’s technical work for Project EPIC, which studied how members of the public make use of social media during times of mass emergency.

Over his 28 years at CU, he has held numerous leadership positions including being the Associate Dean for Education within his college for four years and as Chair of his department for the past seven years. Prof. Anderson was a participant in the first cohort of the NCWIT Pacesetters program which motivated him to lead the process of creating a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science degree at CU back in 2013 in pursuit of broadening participation in computing (BPC). As Associate Dean, Professor Anderson pursued the creation of a wide range of student success initiatives within his college and led the effort to create the Grade Replacement Policy at CU Boulder which helps students who struggle academically initially by providing them with a chance to recover and move forward to pursue their academic and professional goals. As Chair, Prof. Anderson has helped to grow the department while pursuing BPC initiatives and developing a number of new academic degree programs both residentially and online.

Prof. Anderson has enjoyed the life-long learning that comes with working in the areas of computer science and software engineering and is looking forward to next year when he will hit his 50th year of being a programmer.
