Attend an NCWIT Higher Ed Alliance presentation on February 11th!
NCWIT staff are excited to bring #NCWITontheroad to the annual conference hosted by the Collaborative Network for Engineering and Computing Diversity (CoNECD, pronounced “connected”) and dedicated to all the diverse groups that comprise our engineering and computing workforce. This event provides a forum for exploring current research and practices to enhance diversity and inclusion of all underrepresented populations in the engineering and computing professions, including gender identity and expression, race and ethnicity, disability, veterans, LGBTQ+, 1st generation and socio-economic status.
This year’s event will be held at the Westin Riverwalk in San Antonio, TX. Find more information below about when and where to connect at the Westin Riverwalk between February 9 – 11. Please note: All times listed on this page reflect the local time zone, Central Time.
Dr. Jamie Huber Ward, NCWIT Associate Director of Higher Ed, will be on site throughout the event. As past president of the board of directors for the Women in Engineering Pro-Active Network (WEPAN) — an NCWIT Affinity Alliance member organization, she will participate in the pre-conference WEPAN board of directors meeting as well as additional WEPAN activities throughout the CoNECD Conference.
She will also be joined on-site by Dr. Sarayu Sundar, NCWIT Higher Ed Research Associate, and Dr. Sherri Sanders — NCWIT Director of Higher Ed Initiatives and BridgeUP STEM and Senior Faculty Research Associate. Connect with #NCWITontheroad crew at the following events:

Utilizing Evidence-Based Tools to Systemically and Sustainably Broaden Participation in Undergraduate Computing
Feb. 11th | 10:30 am | Encino | Presentation from the NCWIT Higher Ed Research Team
This interactive presentation explores a recently published paper by NCWIT research scientists who work with the NCWIT Higher Ed Alliance, a nationwide network of post-secondary institutions that work to broaden participation in computing (BPC) with the support of the National Science Foundation (NSF), an NCWIT Lifetime Partner. The workshop session is designed for computer science administrators and faculty to learn about and be empowered to make systemic change, and begin to conduct their own needs-assessments, using the NCWIT Tech Inclusion Journey® for Undergraduate Programs (TIJ-UP) platform. The full paper will be available to logged in and registered conference attendees once the conference starts, and to all visitors after the conference ends.
Authors include:
- Dr. Jamie Huber Ward
- Dr. Kiersten Ferguson, NCWIT Research Associate
- Dr. Sherri Sanders

About the NCWIT Higher Ed Alliance
The NCWIT Higher Ed Alliance is a nationwide coalition of post-secondary institutions that are dedicated to increasing equity and inclusion in computing by broadening participation of underrepresented and marginalized groups. Together, we build consensus for action amongst colleagues, leaders, and advisors to create momentum for measurable, sustainable change within computing departments and STEM institutions.
This spring, join a discussion among peers to learn about quantum computing and how educators can prepare students to explore this emerging technology. NCWIT is proud to serve a crucial role as a key member of the Elevate Quantum consortium, providing the infrastructure and leadership necessary to coordinate the efforts of more than 15 partner organizations.
More: NCWIT Will Bring Diversity to Quantum Computing
The Meeting of the Minds event series is free, open to the public, and geared toward post-secondary computing faculty, staff, researchers, students, and all who are interested in making systemic, inclusive change.
