TechChicks: A Mobile App by Girls, for Girls

In early December, I was introduced to the Motorola Mobility Grant project that  NCWIT was offering for Aspirations recipients. This is a project where young women are engaged in building a mobile application on the Android platform.
After much pondering we (a group of about 30 girls) came up with the idea of a mobile application that is designed to bring the women from, or aspiring to be in any technology field together through a virtual platform. This project mentor is Douglas Ertz, a software engineer and manager who had worked at Bell Labs and many other companies.
This project is by girls for girls, being conceived and built by and for NCWIT Aspirations in Computing recipients that are scattered around the country (and some outside the country).  In the app users will be able to seek jobs and internships, keep track of deadlines for opportunities (scholarships, internships, conferences), and receive mentoring and network with women in the field.  The features include the following:

user profile
forums for help and questions
ratings for new technology products, colleges and companies
calendar to keep track of activities and deadlines
opportunities to find scholarships, jobs and internship options
check-in feature where one could see who is nearby and meet-up

The experience of building this app is nothing but out of this world. All the girls are very cooperative and excited to work on it, even though we are far away from each other and learning a completely new concept.  I have never seen anything but positive energy flowing through this team, and we are all excited to finally present this to the world.
This app is made by women for women.
P.S. A special thanks to Doug for being so sweet and understanding, we all really appreciate your help.
