The cybersecurity field is vast, but guiding your students through it doesn’t have to be daunting. This workshop introduces you to a wealth of incredible, publicly available resources designed to map out cyber careers. We will explore the foundations of K–12 cybersecurity education, helping you understand the core principles and challenges that make this broad field a great fit for all kinds of talents and interests.

We will guide you through leading national workforce frameworks—showcasing 52 distinct work roles that bridge both technical and non-technical paths while sharing resources students can use to try out cyber firsthand to see if it’s a good fit. We’ll also help you cut through the confusion of hundreds of different credentials and degree pathways. Plus, you’ll walk away knowing exactly where to find free education, training, and scholarship opportunities for your students.

A School Counselor’s Guide to Cybersecurity Pathways

A School Counselor’s Guide to Cybersecurity Pathways is a professional learning experience designed to help school counselors better understand the growing field of cybersecurity and the educational pathways available to students. Through discussions with education, workforce, industry, and higher education partners, counselors will explore cybersecurity career opportunities, workforce trends, industry certifications, postsecondary options, and K–12 learning pathways that support student success in a digital world. The workshop will also highlight strategies for increasing student awareness, promoting equitable access to cybersecurity opportunities, and supporting students in exploring careers connected to technology, digital citizenship, and cybersecurity.

Western Region Workshop

Location: Allegheny Intermediate Unit: IMS Meeting Room

Hosted in partnership with NCWIT’s Advising for Future-Ready Students program, Allegheny IU, Pittsburgh Tech Council, CyberHub PGH and PaTTAN, this day brings together Middle and High School counselors, Career Coaches, CTE advisors, and educators to explore the many entry points into the cybersecurity field.
