Dr. Eugene Judson is an associate professor of science education in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University. He is a former junior high school science teacher and has additionally worked as a researcher on National Science Foundation projects and for the Arizona Department of Education. Dr. Judson has a broad base of experience in science education, educational policy, and school improvement. His research focuses primarily on educational policies and their effects on STEM education in the K-12 environment. His work has led to numerous presentations and publications in scholarly journals such as Science Education, Educational Policy Analysis Archives, International Journal of Science Education, and Journal of Research in Science Teaching. Dr. Judson’s research has had significant impact, and he has met with members of Congress to discuss how his research related to accountability and science assessments can inform reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. He serves on the national level committees of the National Science Teachers Association Committee on Research in Science Teaching, and the National Association of Research in Science Teaching External Policy and Relations Committee. Locally, Dr. Judson serves as a Senator representing the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College within ASU’s University Senate. Dr. Judson is a member of the Design Team for the Arizona Science Center’s Framing New Pathways to Medical Discovery for Families, Students, and Teachers, helping to develop quality outreach, demonstrations, and lab experiences. He currently serves as a Co-Principal Investigator on two projects: 1) the Arizona Physics Teachers Education Coalition, and 2) Desert to Rainforest: Preparing Pre-service Teachers for Science Success. Dr. Judson has received the Arizona State University President’s Medal for Team Excellence and the Arizona State University President’s Medal for Social Embeddedness.
