Technology Executive

Katharina Mumford is a technology executive at Bank of America where she has technology accountability for Credit Card, Deposits and Wealth Banking products, Rewards and Deals loyalty programs, and Enterprise Transaction Services for Check, Cash and Card Issuance.

Katharina joined Bank of America in 2001 and has worked in many consumer technology product delivery roles.  Following the Countrywide transition in 2008, she was appointed to lead technology for the Insurance line of business.  In this role, she led one of the largest divestitures allowing for a multi-billion dollar capital release for the corporation.  In 2011, Katharina’s responsibilities expanded to lead Consumer Deposits Technology where she was accountable for establishing one coast-to-coast deposits platform delivering a consistent customer experience.  In 2015, her role grew to include Merrill Lynch’s Wealth Banking and Personal Retirement products.  In 2018, Katharina was asked to lead Financial Center and ATM technology to transform the client and associate experience.

Before joining the bank, Katharina was a management consultant with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young and worked for Tetra Pak and Michelin Tire Corporation in consumer behavior research and manufacturing design roles.

Katharina earned her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University and Master of Science in Management from Georgia Institute of Technology.

Katharina is currently on an executive sponsor for the Charlotte Chapter and the Global Advisory Committee for the bank’s Women in Technology & Operations advocacy group.  She has led efforts to attract and partner with groups such as AnitaB.org.  Katharina has participated as a sponsor, panelist and volunteer for the national NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing program.  She is also the lead executive for the Charlotte-based summer immersion program with Girls Who Code.  Outside the bank, Katharina is active in her local community supporting young would be technologists through her work for the Girls in STEM programs at Discovery Place, a leader in STEM education in the Carolinas.  She is a recipient of Bank of America’s Global Diversity & Inclusion Award in honor of her commitment to inclusive leadership.

Katharina, her husband, and their two children live south of Charlotte, NC in Waxhaw.
