NCWIT Research Associate – Director of Racial Equity
The National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) welcomes applications for a research associate! - Lead efforts to prioritize racial equity and inclusion across NCWIT programs, alliances and activities.
- Work with organizational leadership to set priorities for the organization relative to racial equity and inclusion.
- Manage the racial equity committee within NCWIT to identify and support racial-equity-related initiatives for the organization.
- Develop and strengthen partnerships with external groups focused on racial equity.
- Participate in the Research and Resource Leadership Team to co-create NCWIT’s strategy and priorities for social science research and resources.
- Conduct research relative to race and ethnicity, as funding is available.
- Create and review NCWIT resources with a racial equity lens.
- Advise and collaborate, as needed, on new NCWIT projects and programs.
- Provide strategic collaboration and support to NCWIT Program and Alliance Directors, NCWIT Communications team, and other key NCWIT partners.
- Ph.D in anthropology, communication, cultural studies, sociology, education, management, social psychology, industrial psychology, or related field.
- Significant experience in education, non-profit, and/or industry contexts related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB).
- Strong record of academic scholarship and practice focused on social justice and racial equity or other intersectional identities, such as gender and gender expression, race, class, sexual orientation, ability, national origin, or immigration status.
- Demonstrated history of strong leadership abilities, excellent interpersonal skills, and collaborative relationship building.
- Strong presentation and speaking skills.
- Experience leading and building new racial equity programs and/or initiatives.
- Established thought leadership in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB).
- Experience with fundraising and/or proposal development.
- Experience in DEIB within computing and STEM education or industry.

The Higher Education Alliance Manager conducts duties aligned with Higher Education Alliance membership engagement and DEI awareness building; project management and logistical support; Higher Education Alliance membership and initiative diversification, promotion, and administration; and collaboration with other NCWIT programs and Alliances.
The NCWIT organization is part of the College of Engineering & Applied Science at the University of Colorado-Boulder. Who We Are
The National Center for Women & Information Technology is a prominent national coalition of more than 1,600 organizations working to significantly increase girl’s/women’s meaningful and influential participation in computing. It has raised over $28 million in NSF grants and considerable corporate gifts. NCWIT membership is organized by “alliances.” NCWIT’s Higher Education Alliance—the largest of NCWIT’s four alliances—supports computing programs in colleges and universities across the nation in growing inclusive cultures and building structures of equity so that all women of intersecting identities can participate fully in computing education, research, innovation, and leadership. The Higher Education Alliance includes nearly 700 colleges and universities with more than 2000 individual representatives working to diversify computing at their institutions. NCWIT convenes, equips, and unites more than 1,500 change leader organizations nationwide to increase the influential and meaningful participation of girls and women — at the intersections of race/ethnicity, class, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability status, and other historically marginalized identities — in the field of computing, particularly in terms of innovation and development.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Higher Education Alliance Membership Diversification and Administration:
- Lead the development and implementation of outreach strategies to continue diversifying and increasing Alliance membership.
- Facilitate the development and implementation of new Alliance member onboarding process using a team of volunteer Ambassadors.
- Coordinate the recruitment, selection, training, and work of the volunteer Ambassadors team representing a broad spectrum of member institution types.
- Maintain a CRM and associated documentation on potential and current members and member representatives, including creating membership reports and conducting basic organizational research.
- Analyze membership data to assess membership trends, opportunities, and gaps and to provide supporting documentation for relevant grant proposals.
- Serve as the front-line Higher Education team member to Alliance member representatives, providing them with responsive customer service and connection to NCWIT programs and resources to assist in departmental broadening participation work.
- Supervise undergraduate student employees in the administration of the Alliance.
Higher Education Alliance Project Management and Logistical Support:
- Provide overall project management and logistical support to Alliance-related programming initiatives, conducted via volunteer committees, designed to engage Alliance member representatives in advancing efforts to increase the diversity and inclusion of undergraduate and graduate women within their computing programs.
- Facilitate the operation and implementation of the NCWIT Meeting of the Minds webinar series, in collaboration with other Higher Education Alliance team members.
- Provide logistical support to the Higher Education ListServ, and coordinate the ListServ moderators and other Higher Education team members in the implementation of the Higher Education ListServ.
- Coordinate the higher education programming components of NCWIT’s annual Summit.
Provide project management and logistical support to the Higher Education Alliance Co-Chair committee. - Implement Higher Education Alliance participation in conference convenings to promote Alliance opportunities for enhancing DEI efforts within computing departments.
- Collaborate with the Higher Education regional initiatives social scientist to deliver DEI education to universities in specific regions, through speaker coordination, webinar delivery, participant recruitment, evaluation reporting, etc.
- Partner with the Higher Education team to facilitate the Alliance Advisory Board, which is composed of national DEI-in-computing experts and seeks advice and input on NCWIT’s efforts in pursuing its mission specific to a higher education setting.
- Coordinate the Higher Education Alliance awards recognition program and ensure operations, logistics, and support of awards committee meetings, application process, and award promotion.
- Provide logistical support to the Higher Education Learning Circles program and conduct high-level institutional research on interested departments of computing.
Higher Education Initiatives and Higher Education Alliance Promotion:
- Ensure the timely delivery of regular Alliance newsletters, social media, and other member communication.
- Facilitate the identification and submission of relevant content for Alliance communication materials.
- Coordinate with the NCWIT Communication team to ensure that the Alliance’s web presence provides engaging, accurate, and useful information for prospective and current Alliance members.
- Lead the development and update process of higher education-related webpages in collaboration with Higher Education social scientists.
- Promote NCWIT and Alliance membership benefits to prospective members via conference booths, receptions, and presentations; networking opportunities with existing member representatives; and disseminating NCWIT research-based resources.
- Promote services and practices emerging from other NSF-funded Broadening Participation in Computing Alliances via conference engagement partnerships, newsletter promotions, etc.
- Develop engaging marketing material in collaboration with the NCWIT Communication Team.
- Act as the liaison between the Higher Education team and the NCWIT Communications Team.
- Promote and represent the Higher Education Alliance work to the broader NCWIT organization.
Other Duties:
- Participate in weekly Higher Education Initiatives team meetings.
- Provide support in development and implementation of the project management system to facilitate seamless operation of the team’s work.
- Collaborate with other NCWIT programs and Alliances to share opportunities and resources for Alliance member organizations and member Representatives.
- Assist in the preparation of funder and stewardship reports as needed.
- Assist the Director with unit-wide activities as needed, including seasonal logistical support of the BridgeUP STEM program.
- Stay apprised and current on relevant University and State of Colorado policies and procedures.
- Participate in professional development activities and serves on unit, college or campus committees as applicable.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You Should Know
This position has the opportunity to be fully remote.
What We Can Offer
The starting salary range for this position is $60,000 – $67,000. Relocation assistance is available within department guidelines.

NCWIT Graphic Designer Consultant
The National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) is a prominent, national community of more than 1,500 organizations whose mission is to significantly increase girls’ and women’s participation in computing. NCWIT materials create awareness about the current state of affairs for technical girls and women, and key barriers to their participation in technology; increase knowledge about research-based practices for addressing these barriers; and, motivate individuals and organizations to take action. Thus, materials must be distinct and clearly portray goals, progress, and outcomes of the NCWIT mission.
The NCWIT Marketing and Communications Team is searching for an experienced graphic designer who has excellent problem-solving skills and the creative capacity to design for several mediums (web, social media, and print) and audiences (K-12, higher education, and corporate). The individual will be responsible for designing a wide range of organizational collateral, including (but not limited to) e-newsletters, research-based resources, presentation assets, and marketing assets in the form of social media tiles, flyers, and more.
Responsibilities include:
- Use expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite applications to create professional digital and print layouts from text files, stock photography, and original illustrations.
- Use basic knowledge of layout principles to build and design e-newsletter communications and webpages and tiles.
- Following brand guidelines, design slide templates and decks to supplement resources as standalone products, including notes, voiceovers, etc.
- Exercise a depth of understanding about visual hierarchy to efficiently design graphics to scale and legibility for social media.
- Adhere to established style guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, or other related field
- Solid knowledge of production best practices and delivery.
- Skilled at taking direction from content leads and creative directors
- A minimum of three years of professional experience as a Designer, or other graphic design positions
- Skilled with MS Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat)
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively within tight time constraints
- Ability to work with individuals with various educational and professional backgrounds including but not limited to students, educators, industry executives, website developers, PhDs, and members of the press
- Proficiency with working offsite and independently while meeting deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
- an interest and knowledge about the underrepresentation of historically marginalized identities in technological innovation, as identified in mainstream media and social science research
- knowledge of website design and accessibility principles
Time Commitment and Pay:
This position includes up to 20 hours/week with an hourly rate dependent on skills and experience.
