Leading Company and University Representatives Convene to Focus on Increasing the Number of Women in Technology and Computing

The National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) today holds a roundtable for NCWIT Pacesetters, a fast-track program seeking to increase the number of women in technology. The two-day roundtable, co-hosted by the State of Colorado Governor’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) and Return Path, will take place at the St. Julien Hotel & Spa in Boulder, Colorado.
NCWIT Pacesetters commits leaders from companies and universities to significantly increase their organization’s number of women in technical roles. Pacesetters work together across corporate and academic boundaries, employing innovative and aggressive methods to attract untapped talent pools of “Net New Women” – technical women who would otherwise pursue non-computing careers or would be at risk of leaving.
“The NCWIT Pacesetters Program takes conversations to the next level and drives action, said Jill Ross, Program Director of NCWIT Pacesetters. “It is unique in that it enables organizations to compete against the problem together and grow the collective talent pool for all.”
The participating members of the 2013-14 NCWIT Pacesetters cohort include 21 universities and 15 companies, ranging from startups and large corporations to public and private universities to state government departments:

The inaugural NCWIT Pacesetters cohort saw significant results. For example, one corporation doubled its number of female engineer interns; several universities increased participation of women in computing degree programs by 50-100%; and a university instituted a new four-year degree program.
