2017 Pioneer in Tech Award Recipient Barbara Liskov

Barbara Liskov became one of the first women in the U.S. to get a PhD from a computer science department and has led a noteworthy career. She is currently an Institute Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her research interests, such as distributed and parallel systems, programming methodology, and programming languages, have contributed to the foundation for programming languages like Java and out-of-the-box servers like Google. In 2008, Barbara received the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Turing Award, often referred to as the “Nobel Prize of computing.” She was also inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2012.
